Lister's Gotta List April Addition
I have finished the April "Listers Gotta List" Challenge by Cori aka: "The ResetGirl". What am I talking about? I blogged some about what online challenges are here. This particular challenge was born from Cori's youtube videos on how she was decorating her "30 lists" challenge for March. The videos generated so much interest she decided to start a list challenge of her own and boy did that create a buzz. I jumped onto the bandwagon and started my first "scrapbook-ish" kind of thing ever.
Scrapbooking has always seemed to overwhelming for me. Too many little things to collect. I just couldn't let myself go down that road because I already had yarn taking over my house. Then I found the planner community on Instagram. As I have said before, the planner community has changed everything for me and I am completely addicted. My hope that this addiction stays on a much smaller scale then knitting did.
Don't Laugh. I can dream can't I?
Back to the listers challenge. You are given a list of prompts to follow. One prompt for each day of the month. Then you take that prompt and make a list. This isn't journaling, no paragraphs or sentences, just a list. Your lists can be as simple or complex as you want, decorated or not. You can post your lists/or up on Instagram and/or the private Facebook page created just for the challenge.

This is one of the most fun things I have done in a long time. It is instant gratification! It is the rare knitting project that can be started and finished in less then 30 min. Each of these lists takes me 15-30 min. from start to finish.
What a hoot!!
Looking at what everyone else did for the same list is so inspiring. People that have joined this challenge are from all over the world and all ages.
I have gotten so much out of doing this daily. Being creative for a small amount of time on a daily basis is a stealthy way of practicing. I have no idea what my creative style is in this arena since I have never done it. Doing this everyday has put me on the fast track of becoming comfortable with creating in the moment, not having everything turn out perfect and fixing "mistakes" or "design opportunities" in the moment. This is very freeing if you aren't hard on yourself and allow it to take you on the journey.
It has also been great to take time a look back at my life in these quirky little ways. Just little snippets of life that as a whole add up to Me. I also realized after getting halfway through the month that this is an amazing keepsake. It really is pieces of me.
Have you ever done a challenge like this? There can be some fear to begin with. That voice in your head can really work against you. "I can't do this, I am not creative enough, what if I can't do this everyday and I get behind? I am not good enough"
The Answer to all of these foolish things that we put into our heads is:
This is your list and your rules. There is no right or wrong. There where 2 prompts I didn't do last month because I really didn't have anything to say. So, I skipped them. If it really feels overwhelming for you to do a list everyday , just pick and chose half of the prompts for the month. This is only for you, so enjoy your process, don't compare yourself to others and especially, be kind to yourself. We all start out not knowing what we are doing and with time and lots of doing, things begin to fall into place. You, will start to emerge.
Have you done any creative challenges from the internet? If so what how did they change you?
